Bible Study

Thursday, February 23

12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

Bible Study - Making Sense of the Cross

This is the third book in the Making Sense series, by David Lose.  Making Sense of the Cross gives us the opportunity to "listen in" on a conversation between two people who are having an open and candid discussion about the cross.  We will tackle questions like:

·        So what’s with the cross?

·        What does the cross say about God?

·        What’s the big deal?

·        Did Jesus have to die?

·        Why does the Cross Matter?

Bring your Bibles and your questions.  There are two opportunities to attend this study:

·        Wednesday evenings from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (Sheraden), 3102 Sherwood Ave., Pgh 15204.   STLC’s Bible study will be seven weeks long, from Wednesday, Feb. 1 thru March 14 (skipping Feb. 22 - Ash Wednesday).

·        Thursdays from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (Mt. Oliver), 601 Brownsville Rd., Pgh 15210.  MTLC’s Bible study will be six weeks long, from Thursday, Feb. 2 thru March 8.

You can come to one or the other study.  It is suggested that you purchase the book, Making Sense of the Cross, by David Lose.  If you still need a copy of the book, see Pastor Dibble; she has extra copies of the book for sale for $13.00 each.  Questions?  Call Pastor Melba at 412-212-8794.

PLUM is organizing a 7-day tour of the Holy Land with special focus on Bethlehem. The trip is tentatively scheduled for June 29 - July 7, 2012. The cost of the trip will be in the range of $2,500 - $2,800. This includes everything: airfare, lodging, meals, etc.

This will be both a pilgrimage tour and a servant event. This tour will have a focus on the exciting, growing ministry of the Christmas Lutheran Church in Bethlehem. We will also visit Shepherd's Field, Jerusalem, the Qumran caves, the Sea of Galilee, Nazareth and other sites in the north. Tour participants will be invited to do some sort of supportive work to the Lutheran ministry in Bethlehem.
